Cappadocia has been settled since the Neolithic period because of the soft ignimbrite formation of volcanic origin. It is very easy to hollow out the rock beds to construct any kind of functional room you like. Yet, it is a good insulator because of its porous texture. The interior temperature of the rock-cut cave rooms remain constant throughout the year. The area now, however,  is strictly protected as a national park so carving the rock formations is prohibited.

The beauty of the region must have appealed to the Orthodox Christians as well. Consequently, the area was densely populated by some of the first Christian communities of Anatolia. They built hundreds of unique troglodyte churches and hermitages decorated with frescoes depicting the scenes from Hagiography.

Cappadocia is also a visitor friendly destination where you can observe and picture the locals farming in terms of viticulture, apricots, walnuts, apples, almonds, pumpkin pips, rock-cut lemon storages and pigeon houses.

Hot Air Balloon Flights

Cappadocia is one of the best balloon flight destinations in the world for its surreal landscape. Every day dozens of balloons take off exploring the dramatic land below. Flying an hour over the ice cream looking formations will be the most exhilarating memory of your life.

Whirling Dervishes Ceremony

Cappadocia region is the homeland of Whirling Dervishes who are the observers of the spiritual “Mevlevi” order. This humanistic brotherhood is based upon fraternity, unlimited tolerance and equality. Their genuine ceremony is performed by a devoted group which is a truly moving experience to view.

Turkish Folk Dancing 

Rock-cut cave venues in Cappadocia organize the most brilliant Turkish folk dancing nights on a daily basis. Imagine sitting in a tremendous cave with everything chipped out from tuff rock including your table, the stage and even the sound cabin! This ensures perfect acoustics to listen the playful tunes of Turkish folk music. Turkey is so proud of its well preserved folkloric culture that goes with a vast variety of local tunes and traditional outfits. A glass of our national spirit drink raki, distilled grapes in anise would perfectly match the joy. It is not a touristy show since it is mostly attended by Turkish people. By the way, prepare for the bonfire and be informed lots of dancing will be involved!
